Sitting meditation is the purification crucible. In following the breath, we slowly learn to simply observe and not react. We gradually achieve a state of balance, calmness, and peacefulness. Thoughts arise and pass away. Everything rises and passes away. So what we're doing in sitting is what we're trying to learn to do in life every day, all day, in all situations, i.e. to observe and be in control of our own reactions, to flow with life and not get stuck. |
